What is the difference between status- and estimate-based progress?

Wizeline offers you two possible ways of calculating JIRA progress in Wizeline:

  • By status: for the issues in your feature or release, we count the number of issues that are to-do, in progress and complete and calculate progress based on that count.
    • To determine the status of your JIRA issues, we look at the JIRA status category for each of the issues mapped to the Wizeline feature.
  • By estimate: for the issues in your feature or release, we sum up the estimate across all issues that are to-do, in progress and complete and calculate progress based on the sum of the estimates.

The estimate-based progress type is optional, so if your team does not use an estimate field in JIRA or does not diligently estimate your JIRA issues, then you do not need to enable this progress type.

If you do enable this progress type, then you can choose the JIRA estimate field that you use to quantify the work on each of your JIRA issues. Once chosen, you will be able to see progress on your features, releases and roadmaps based on both estimate and status. This gives you two means of quantifying and comparing your development progress.
